This coffee is named after the Lamari River, which carves its way through the rugged and remote Eastern Highlands of Papua New Guinea. This region, with its soaring altitudes of 1,700 to 2,000 meters and rich volcanic soil, provides an ideal, cool climate for cultivating high-quality Arabica coffee. Unlike large estates, about 85% of coffee in PNG is grown by smallholder farmers in "coffee gardens," small family-owned plots where coffee trees are interspersed with other crops. This lot is the collective effort of numerous smallholders who deliver their hand-picked cherries to the Lamari River Valley Coffee Gardens mill for processing, ensuring a coffee that is a true representation of the region's unique terroir.
Roasting a classic washed coffee from Papua New Guinea is about achieving a perfect balance. A medium roast profile is applied to build a foundation of brown sugar and roasted almond. This carefully controlled heat application also highlights the subtle, crisp notes of tangerine and a clean dark chocolate finish, resulting in a cup that is exceptionally smooth, balanced, and versatile—perfect for both espresso and filter brewing.
